Blog Assignment #5: Stress Reduction

About 2 years ago I started doing Yoga to get back some flexibility I had lost after quitting gymnastics. Not only did I gain more flexibility but also a more tranquil set of mind. For any stress related event I have always chosen yoga. I started out with DVDs that I could do in my room and moved on to attending classes after joining a gym when I gained more confidence in my poses. Everytime I do yoga I always feel better physically because it is a good stretch when I have sore muscles. I also feel better emotionally becuase each pose that I try to do I challenge myself everytime and I focus on how I can be better. Yoga mentally clears my mind. Its the only stress reduction technique where I leave everything out the door and only focus on what I am doing in the moment. Sometimes I struggle to not think about my daily activities or plan for the week, but each time I practive yoga it slowly slips away which means I'm doing something right. My goal in yoga is to be able to identify each pose and the names of them.

  1. Nice technique. Keep with it and you'll reach your goal in no time. I'm sure it will be much easier to reach your goals if it's something you enjoy doing

  2. Being flexible is a good thing for your body, but I did not know that doing yoga is also a good way to lower stress by clearing your mind. Very interesting! I know my sister used to take yoga in high school.

  3. I feel as though most people fear working out in public when they don't feel ready. when i was out of shape i did a lot of training on my own until i felt better about my body and would go to gyms.

  5. Definitely yoga is a great workout, but I've never done it before. One day, I will try it. I hope yoga will help to reduce my migraine.

  6. I agree that yoga has more benefits than just becoming flexable. I have been doing for last 3 years and i have learned that I had more natural energy after the first 3 weeks. It has help me with my work outs too by stretching out my muscle more. but more importantly my organs. It releases many of the toxins built up in our bodies that many of us dont think about. Everyone should try yoga at some part and time of their life.

  7. When I was first introduced to yoga I thought it looked like too easy of a work-out. I had always been more drawn to kick-boxing & weight lifting becuase I felt like it helped me get out my aggression. When I finally decided to try yoga I very quickly realized that this was a pretty tough work-out & that it not only helped me physically but also emotionally & spiritually! There are a lot of misconceptions about yoga, like that it's just for chicks or that it's for the hippie, tree-hugging type but I'm pleasantly surprised every time I see professional athletes & tough, rough-neck, MMA fighters practicing. I've learned through the years that yoga has so much to offer!
