Blog Assignment #4: 6 Words of Self Worth

Worrying Solves Nothing, So Do Something

Before I started the 6 Word Project, I literally could not think of 6 words that endeared my self worth. I thought back from when I was a kid and tried to think of advice given to me by my coaches. Anything I had come up with was either 7,8, or 9 words, or too short. Then I started thinking about how far I had come with my education. For years on end I was always the kid with the tutor, I had an issue with dyslexia but I never let that get me down. If I got a C in math I nearly posted it on the fridge with a wide grin on my face. C's in my family were A's if it was math involved. My mom always told me that we're a math illiterate family, and that she blames it on genetics haha. For as long as I could remember, I stress very easily. I was a competitive gymnast for nearly 10 years and I always, always stressed about competing. Constantly telling myself, "what if I dont land my dismount, what if I miss beam by an inch." My mom always told me, "Honey, worrying solves nothing." And there it was! When I added, "so do something" I wanted to incorporate the motivation to end the worrying, and do something about it. Stop worrying about something, and just fix it. That sounds kind of cliche but its that little push to get you going on whether its in college, a boyfriend, a friend, a family member. You have to break through that "worry" factor and just step all over it. Sitting there worrying about something you think you won't succeed in is only going to hold you back from what you've been trying to accomplish. It never hurt anyone to try. At first you don't succeed, then try again.

Blog Assignment #3: Words of Affirmation

So I decided to take the Love Language Assessment. I kind of always knew that I like recieving words of affirmation, and I scored 7/12 on that part. I like when people talk to me about how well Im doing, or if I am appreciated whether its at home or on the job. Also, I scored 7/12 on Quality Time. Which I also knew I would score higher in because I do like to spend time with my boyfriend and do things together that are considered quality time. We like to go down to San Diego and hang out by the beach and grab a nice dinner. I scored 4/12 on recieving gifts. I don't really mind when people give me things to show affection, I was never really big on presents. I'm a very humble person. I scored 6/12 on Acts of Service and Physical Touch. The quiz results didn't really show anything new to me because I agreed on all the scores, it was pretty spot on. I really liked this assignment, it is something I have never done before, or even heard of. It was fun to do something new and find out results of myself through a scoring of answers.

Blog Assignment #2: Food, Inc. Gross!

This film examines corporate farming throughout the United States. The film documented agriculture that produces food that is unhealthy, in a way that is environmentally harmful and abusive of both animals and employees. I have always been an animal lover at heart, but I am neither a vegetarian nor a vegan. I believe in eating meat, but in the healthiest way. After watching those animals in the factories it put a wrenching knot in my stomach to think that is what happens behind closed doors. I could not believe when they showed the chickens in the dark, covered areas of the farm as they are standing in their own urine and feces. How the chickens are so overweight they can barely stand up. This film shows the truth about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here. The most interesting part of the film that I personally opened my eyes for was the story of Barbara Kowalcyk, who's been lobbying for more rigorous standards since E. coli claimed the life of her two-year-old son.

Blog Assignment #1: Introduction

Hey guys, my name is Hayley. I'm 23 years old, I live in Murrieta, California. I am currently attending Palomar during this summer of 2012 to take a health class in order to complete my General Education and recieve an AA degree. I am attending Cal State San Marcos in the Fall and majoring in Sociology with a focus on Children, Youth & Families. Since I am a transfer student I only need to attend 2 years (hopefully) in hopes of recieving my bachelors degree and furthering my education into the real world by getting a big girl job :). I am a barista at Starbucks and have been since I was 17, I have been working at the same store since 2007 (5 years now). I have never blogged before so hopefully I am doing this correctly. I am somewhat computer savvy so this shouldnt be too bad. Some things I like to do are hanging out with my friends, family and my boyfriend. I recently started baking out of boredom and I love to make cupcakes and cookies for my coworkers and friends. I do like to exercise, I would like to start running more. I was a gymnast for 9 years so Ive always had an athletic background. Mostly I do low impact workouts such as yoga and pilates. Every so often I'll do strength training and spin classes. I eat pretty healthy so I am anxious to learn things about health that I don't already know.
