Blog Assignment #2: Food, Inc. Gross!

This film examines corporate farming throughout the United States. The film documented agriculture that produces food that is unhealthy, in a way that is environmentally harmful and abusive of both animals and employees. I have always been an animal lover at heart, but I am neither a vegetarian nor a vegan. I believe in eating meat, but in the healthiest way. After watching those animals in the factories it put a wrenching knot in my stomach to think that is what happens behind closed doors. I could not believe when they showed the chickens in the dark, covered areas of the farm as they are standing in their own urine and feces. How the chickens are so overweight they can barely stand up. This film shows the truth about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here. The most interesting part of the film that I personally opened my eyes for was the story of Barbara Kowalcyk, who's been lobbying for more rigorous standards since E. coli claimed the life of her two-year-old son.

  1. I agree with you, the industries not only abuse their animals but their workers, which is totally unacceptable and needs to change!Yes the story of Barbara Kowalcyk was super sad and definitely touched my heart, I can't even imagine how she felt when she lost her 2 year old son.

  2. I must agree with you in regards of eating meat in a healthy way. But the ways of how they treat the animals makes me feel uncomfortable. It must have been terrible of how Barbara's son dies from the E. Coli and no one gets blamed for that, but it helps remind us to always check our food products to see if they are safe to eat.

  3. I agree with you in eating meat, but in the healthiest way. It is hard to find healthy meat these days. After watching the movie I thought of becoming vegeterian, but that is going to be a hard thing to do since I have been eating meat my entire life.

  4. I agree, the story of Barbara and her son, was the most touching. What made it more impactful was the fact that she said she is still fighting to get his law back in action. Powerful..

  5. They need to give those chickens some walking room so they can build some leg muscles to carry the increased size. It's not right to do what they're doing. although i will continue to eat them.

  6. Yes, this documentary was eye-opening on so many levels from what is put into our food supply, how our food is produced, the lack of accountablility on the FDA's part, the use of migrant workers which are exploited & punished by immigration, but also the conditions in which these poor animals are living their short life existence....and this is all happening in THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...SO disappointing & real sad if you ask me....Aren't we better than that???
